Owners Laura Black and Charles Lee are closing the West Ashley comfort food spot to spend more time with family. The last day of service is Sunday, September 27.

The Mason Jar by Fatboys, a West Ashley fixture at 2487 Ashley River Road since 2014, will serve its last meal on September 27.

Owners Laura Black and Charles Lee opened the restaurant with money inherited from their fathers' estates and built it into a neighborhood spot known for Southern comfort food. Black said the decision came down to family. "She needs us, and she deserves to have us there. Not just when we can squeeze it in around the restaurant," she wrote about her daughter.

Black also thanked the people who kept the place going. "There truly aren't words big enough to thank every person who has walked through our doors."

The couple say they are helping their employees find new positions and are putting together a cookbook so the recipes stay in circulation. If you have been meaning to go, you have about three weeks, and the last few weekends are likely to be busy.
