A Mount Pleasant town committee recommended on Oct. 5 that charter vessels working in town hold a town business license, carry liability insurance and keep the captain's business license aboard for inspection. Town Council takes it up Oct. 13.

Why this matters here

Mayor Will Haynie said dozens of boats advertise charters on Shem Creek but few hold a business license. If this passes, captains who already pay for licensing and insurance get a more level playing field, and unlicensed operators get a deadline well ahead of next summer.
