With a $24 million renourishment project expected to finish by the end of 2026, Isle of Palms is studying ways to stretch the life of its beach projects, including a groin near Breach Inlet, shoal management at Wild Dunes, and more plantings and sand fencing. Nothing has been approved.

Why this matters here

Mayor Phil Pounds called the beaches the island's economic backbone, and the city has been spending roughly $20 million or more every six to ten years to keep them. Every restaurant, rental and shop on the island is downstream of how that bill gets managed.
