CurrentBurger opened August 17 at 176 Concord St., on the ground floor of The Cooper hotel next to Waterfront Park. Smash burgers, hand-spun milkshakes, and a takeout window facing the park. Open Tuesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Riva Mare opened August 21 at 2154 Noisette Blvd., on the top floor of Storehouse 9 in the Navy Yard. Coastal Italian from Indigo Road Hospitality Group, with executive chef Sean McMullen. A 165-seat rooftop with cabanas and a raw bar. Parking is free.
Rocko's opened August 24 at 1049 E. Montague Ave. in Park Circle, in the former DIG in the Park space. Todd Justice bought the building in May and added a new bar, more televisions and four new bathrooms. Official grand opening is mid-September.
Two Blokes Brewing opened its downtown taproom August 11 at 114 Cannon Street, on the ground floor of a 19th century home. Fifty seats, a covered patio and a small-batch system for specialty releases. Rhett and Haley Anderson bought the original Mount Pleasant brewery in 2023.
Angel Biscuit Co. and Emily now share 835 Savannah Highway in Avondale, the old Ruby Sunshine space. Angel Biscuit serves breakfast from 7 a.m., Emily does pizza and burgers at night, and weekend brunch runs both menus. Owner Howard Greenstone brought in mixologist Megan Deschaine for the bar.
Also open since mid-August: KYN at 61 Cannon Street, an omakase spot that started as a pop-up. Eggs Up Grill at 608A Long Point Road in Belle Hall. Next Round Social at 4391 Dorchester Road. Dulce's Churros, Cocktails and Ice Cream at One Nexton Shopping Center in Summerville.
Coming
Truth BBQ is planned for 1300 Rutledge Avenue in the old Rutledge Cab Company space. Founder and pitmaster Leonard Botello IV and business partner Abbie Byrom-Botello filed the project July 27, and it entered city review August 13. The plan covers a renovation plus a new smokehouse. Truth's Houston location holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand, and this would be its first permanent restaurant outside Texas. No opening date yet.
Char House Social is coming to 1234 Camp Road on James Island this fall. Josh and Katie Drewry, who own The Harlow, are behind it, with Brett Riley as executive chef and partner. Texas-style steakhouse, whiskey and bourbon bar, indoor and outdoor music stages, and a patio called The Yard.
Chuy's takes over 7811 Rivers Avenue in North Charleston. Bahama Breeze is expected to close there October 26, with Chuy's reopening the site November 18.
Palmetto Moon opens its first downtown Charleston store at 360 King Street on Saturday, November 7.
Luma, an all-day cafe and bakery, is coming to 128 Columbus Street later this year. Bad Bambino, an Italian restaurant from owner Joe Walker, is at 1301 Ashley River Road, Unit B in West Ashley. Cheeky, a seafood-forward concept from Neighborhood Dining Group, is targeting fall at 151 Meeting Street. Kaia, from chef and owner Raheem Sealy, is at 186 Coming Street. A Taste of Rome from Michael Pitera is going into Citadel Mall this fall.
Eggs Up Grill is opening at 98 S. Goose Creek Blvd. later this year with about 30 employees and a private dining room. Franchise owner Marc Cotone is also renovating his Cane Bay location, which just hit ten years.
Closed
Silver Dollar closed August 23 after 26 years at 478 King Street. Owner Steve Sher opened it in December 1999. Condado Tacos and Tequila in Mount Pleasant closed August 29. Easton Barbecue Co. in Hollywood closed August 30 after two years.
